Art in the house #1. Alexandra Spasskaya

How to make your house cozy? Not everyone can properly design interior, make it truly stylish. If you want to deeply understand the topic, go to a real professional! We talked with the master of decorative design of paintings, designer, Alexandra Spasskaya (Moscow), about how to express your individuality in your house.

How to make your home cozy? Perhaps this question is more relevant than ever today, because most of the things around us are not even copies, but copies of copies created by means of mass production. Most of the interiors are patterned, because they are created using the same items in different combinations. For a hotel or office, this is normal, but do we want to contemplate the "IKEA" figurines in our personal space every day?

More and more people are coming to understand how important it is for a harmonious life to spend time surrounded by things that meet their spiritual needs. However, not everyone can properly design the interior, make it truly stylish. Honestly, it's a whole science. If you want to deeply understand the topic-go to a genuine professional! About how to express your own personality at home, we talked with the master of decorative design of paintings, designer, Alexandra Spasskaya.

How did you come to the art environment?
I did not receive a specific art education, for me art is the way of life. Now my main activity is the design of paintings. I am a lawyer by training, but one day I met a man who is a designer. That's when I knew I had to do it. In addition to the design work, I have many different areas. I am engaged in cartonage — it is a French applied art, creating objects from cardboard. I also do porcelain and wood carving. In general, it is difficult to keep me in one area.

What could you include in the concept of "interior painting", what should it be today?
For me, this is a decor that corresponds to a person living in a particular interior. At the same time, interior painting can be completely different in style and type.

What, in your opinion, must be present in the interior as an integral part of it?
This is a rather complicated question. In fact, this is a bit related to the first question as well. What does the interior include? Today, we have a trend towards minimalism in our society. When you look at the proposals of architectural and design bureaus-you see really cool interiors, where everything is strictly maintained. Decor, in fact, in such houses is very small. This design reminds me of a hotel room, such a modern style ‒ it is not very clear to me. I believe that every interior should correspond to the person who lives in it. There should be a concept of personal comfort. However, sometimes people are afraid to make decor, because they are afraid that after a while they will stop liking it. Then they try not to take risks, do everything in a simple way, so that life is somehow easy, so as not to think. I see this as a gross mistake. As if people are afraid to express their inner emotional state. Every person has an emotional sphere where some things touch him. Indeed, some decorative items or paintings evoke emotion. When a person enters a house and sees things (it can be a sculpture, a painting, or some other object), he knows for sure that he is at home.

It turns out that the style of minimalism is devoid of individuality?
Yes, absolutely. It is completely neutral.

In your opinion, why is there such a trend towards minimalism?
This trend is related to the development of our society. People consider minimalism universal, they do not look for complex solutions in the interior decor. What if tomorrow the fashion changes-and you have to redo everything? Investing in the interior is a risk that not everyone is ready to take. Why would we invest, for example, in paintings? Now we like them, and then they can get boring. At the same time, choosing a minimalistic design, people often sacrifice home comfort.

How have the trends related to paintings in the house changed over the past 10 years? Is it possible to track what people preferred to hang on the walls before, and how they decorate the space now?
There are two types of people: the first-for whom painting is considered not only one of the possible elements of decor, but also occupies a fairly large place in their lives. They usually live closely with her since childhood. The love of painting may have passed by itself, but in most cases, this love and interest in Art was set out in the upbringing of the parents. Painting, for such people, must be at home and it is passed down from generation to generation.

The second type of people was not interested in art and is not interested and will not be particularly interested in it. They usually do not spend money on painting and most likely order interior decor as a service.
